Stony Plain is a small town in rural Alberta, Canada, just west of Edmonton.

It is primarily an agricultural town—although its proximity to Edmonton makes it attractive for commuters—servicing a surrounding population of over 60,000 people. The town is known for its many murals, which have earned it the nickname "The Town with the Painted Past."
Services and Attractions Stony Plain has four public, one Catholic, and one private kidergarden to junior high schools, and one public high school. It is also the location of the area's hospital, and is near the Tri-County Leisure Centre. There are eight churches in Stony Plain and seven more in the surrounding areas.
The town is also the location of the Multicultural Heritage Society and the Parkland Potters Guild & Crooked Pot Gallery.
Big Events Stony Plain holds its yearly Farmer's Day the first week in June each year, complete with a parade, rodeo, pancake breakfast, and fair grounds. Also taking place during the summer is the Main Street garage sale, which closes down part of the street. At Christmas, the town sets up a large Christmas tree in an intersection of Main St. and plays carols.
