Sankt Pölten (as known as St. Pölten) is the capital city of the Austrian State of Lower Austria, a role which it has occupied since 1986. It is located at 48°13′N 15°37′E, and has approximately 50,000 inhabitants.
In 2000, St. Pölten and Altoona, Pennsylvania, USA, became twin towns. The first twin town of St. Pölten was Heidenheim, Germany. Other twin towns are Clichy, France; Brno, Czech Republic; and Kurashiki, Japan.
