KNOWLEDGE OF Rødekro

Rødekro is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in South Jutland County on the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 202 km², and has a total population of 11,695 (2005). Its mayor is Tove Larsen, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Rødekro.

Neighboring municipalities are Aabenraa to the east, Haderslev and Vojens to the north, Nørre-Rangstrup and Løgumkloster to the west, and Tinglev to the south.

The municipality was created in 1970 due to a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that combined a number of existing parishes:

Hellevad Parish
Hjordkær Parish
Rise Parish
Øster Løgum Parish

By January 1, 2007 Rødekro municipality will cease to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Bov, Lundtoft, Tinglev, and Aabenraa municipalities to form the new Aabenraa municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 951 km² and a total population of 60,151 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Syddanmark ("South Denmark Region").
