Rødding

KNOWLEDGE OF Rødding

Rødding is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in South Jutland County on the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 273 km², and has a total population of 10,915 (2005). Its mayor is Tage Sørensen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Rødding.

Neighboring municipalities are Christiansfeld and Vamdrup to the east, Vejen, Brørup, and Holsted to the north, Ribe to the west, and Gram and Vojens to the south.

The municipality was created in 1970 as the result of a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that merged a number of existing parishes:

Hjerting Parish
Jels Parish
Lintrup Parish
Rødding Parish
Skodborg Parish
Skrave Parish
Sønder Hygum Parish
Øster Lindet Parish

By January 1, 2007 Rødding municipality will cease to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Brørup, Holsted, and Vejen municipalities to form the new Vejen municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 817 km² and a total population of 41,350 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Syddanmark ("South Denmark Region").
