Puerto Williams is a small Chilean port, located on Isla Navarino facing the Beagle Channel. Its latitude and longitude are 54°56′S 67°37′W.
Puerto Williams is the capital of Antártica Chilena Province, one of four provinces of the Magellanes Region. The province is huge, however most is uninhabited and sovereignty is disputed (Chile's claims in Antarctica overlap with similar claims from the United Kingdom and Argentina). Navarino island is internationally recognized as a part of Chile.
The town is named after Admiral Williams and was founded in the early twentieth century, as a naval base. The population is around 2,000, mixed naval and civilian. Access is by air or barge service from Punta Arenas, or by private yacht charter from Ushuaia (Argentina) - there is no direct commercial link with Argentine territory. Tourism to Puerto Williams and Isla Navarino is being encouraged, and there are several multi-day walks in the mountains to the South of Puerto Williams. Clear remains of the native people's campsites and fishtraps can be seen along the easily accessible coast to the east of Puerto Williams.
Puerto Williams is famous for a museum about the Yamana and Selknam, natives who formerly inhabited Tierra del Fuego
