Nejapa

KNOWLEDGE OF Nejapa

Nejapa is a municipality in the San Salvador department of El Salvador. It is the city after Apopa and before Quezaltepeque. People from Nejapa Are known as Nejapenses. One of the major traditions of Nejapa is "Las Bolas De Fuego" (Balls of Fire). It is celebrated Every 31st of August. Las Bolas de Fuego has two origins, one is a historical story and the other is a religious tale. The Historical verson of the story is that a volcano erupted and forced the villagers of the old Nejapa village (known as Nixapa) to flee and settle at its current location. The religious version is that "San Jeronimo" was fighting the Devil with Balls of fire. No matter what version you beleive, the tradition commemorates both stories. Also Nejapa has a new facility called "Polideporivo de Nejapa" which has become a very famous tourist site. It consists of 4 large pools, a zoo, 3 large soccer fields, a ranch, and restaurants.
