KNOWLEDGE OF Ndola

Ndola is the second-largest city in Zambia, with a population of 374,757 (2000 census). It is the main hub of the Copperbelt, a region in which Zambia's copper is mined. Copper exports provide a large part of Zambia's income, and as such, the city, although not a copper producing center itself, is very important to the country's economy. The town is connected to by rail to Kitwe and to Livingstone via Lusaka. It is home to an airport, a power station and a technical college. It lies on the Itawa and Kafubu Rivers and is home to the Slave Tree around which Arabic slave markets were held in the nineteenth century, before the town's foundation in 1904.
