Maychew

Maychew (also transliterated Mai Ceu, Maich'ew, and Mai Cio) is a town in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. It is located at latitude 12° 47' north and longitude 39° 32' east, with an elevation of 2479 meters, and lies 190 kilometers north of Dessie on the Addis Ababa - Asmara highway, north of Lake Ashenge. As of 1994, it had a population of 19,757.

Near Maychew, on March 31, 1936 the final battle of the Italian invasion of Ethiopia was fought.
