Malargüe

KNOWLEDGE OF Malargüe

Malargüe is a town of approximately 20,000 inhabitants which is the capital of the department of Malargüe in the southwest part of the province of Mendoza in Argentina. It is about 370 km south of the provincial capital Mendoza.

In the past, the local industries included oil exploration and production and uranium mining. In addition there are hotels and cabins available for visitors interested in eco-tourism in the summer and skiing in the winter at the nearby resorts of Las Leñas and Los Molles.

Malargüe is also home to the southern site of the Pierre Auger Observatory, an international physics experiment searching for ultra-high energy cosmic rays.
