Løgumkloster

Løgumkloster is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in South Jutland County on the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 200 km², and has a total population of 6,846 (2005). Its mayor is Kaj Armann, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Løgumkloster.

Neighboring municipalities are Tinglev and Rødekro to the east, Nørre-Rangstrup to the north, Skærbæk and Bredebro to the west, and Tønder to the south.

The municipality was created in 1970 as the result of a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that combined a number of existing parishes:

Løgumkloster Parish
Nørre Løgum Parish

By January 1, 2007 Løgumkloster municipality will cease to exist due to Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Bredebro, Højer, Nørre-Rangstrup, Skærbæk, and Tønder municipalities to form an enlarged Tønder municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 1,352 km² and a total population of 42,645 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Syddanmark ("South Denmark Region").
