Lyngby or Lyngby) is the main city in the affluent municipality of Lyngby-Taarbæk, just north of Copenhagen, Denmark in the northern part of the island of Zealand (Danish, Sjælland), Denmark's largest island. The city consists of two districts, Lyngby (east of the Lyngby train station) and Ulrikkenborg (west of the station), and has a population of 19,500 (as of January 1, 2004).
Among other things the city is home to the Technical University of Denmark, the Lyngby Boldklub soccer team, several large IT companies, financial institutions, major international engineering firm COWI, and the much respected Lyngby-Taarbæk Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Danish Prime Minister's summer residence, Marienborg, is also located in the area on the shore of Bagsværd Sø (Danish, "Lake Bagsvaerd"). It is frequently used for official purposes, and to receive state visitors such as foreign dignitaries.
