KNOWLEDGE OF Kennedy Town

Kennedy Town (堅尼地城) is at the western end of Central and Western District, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. It is part of the Victoria City. It is named after Arthur Edward Kennedy, who was the 7th Governor of Hong Kong from 1872 to 1877.

The area roughly corresponds to the constituency areas of "Kennedy Town and Mount Davis" and "Kwun Lung" in the Central and Western District Council. The neighborhood is primarily Chinese, but a growing number of expats are moving into a number of luxury buildings built along the waterfront.

Kennedy Town is the westernmost "turn around" for the Hong Kong Tramways. In summer of 2005, the ExCo has approved to extend the Island Line of the MTR through Hong Kong University and then adding a stop in Kennedy Town. The travel times are estimated to be 12 minutes to Causeway Bay once completed in approximately 2007.
