KNOWLEDGE OF Ingersoll

Ingersoll (2001 population 11.000) is a town in Oxford County on the Thames River in southwestern Ontario, Canada.

The town was founded by Thomas Ingersoll as Oxford-on-the-Thames. He was a Loyalist who fled the United States, and Laura Secord's father. The town was later renamed Ingersoll in his honor.

The area was well known for cheese production, and was home to the first such factory in Canada.

Ingersoll is the hometown of prominent Canadian author David Manicom.

Heavy manufacturing is Ingersoll's largest industry, including manufacturers such as CAMI Automotive. CAMI, however, is starting production of a new vehicle, The Pontiac Torrent, which starts production in late August of 2005.

The current mayor is Paul Holbrough.
