Iaciara is a small city and municipality in northeastern Goiás state, Brazil. In 2000 it had a population of 11,295 inhabitants in a total area of 1,546 km2. The elevation is approximately 500 meters above sea level.
Iaciara is located in the microregion of the Vale do Paranã, which borders the state of Bahia. The distance to the state capital of Goiânia is 505 quilômetros. There is a dirt road linking Iaciara with Posse and the important BR-020 (BrasÃlia-Salvador). The distance is 47 kilometers.
The municipality has boundaries with Posse, Alvorada do Norte, Guarani de Goiás, Nova Roma and São Domingos, and contains the following settlements: Claretiana, Extrema, Levantado and �gua Quente.
The main rivers that cross the municipality are: the Paranã, �gua Quente, São Bernardo and Prata.
The main economic activity is cattle raising. There are approximately 100 thousand head of cattle in the region, being raised by almost 300 producers. Around 1,000 persons are employed on the cattle ranches.
