KNOWLEDGE OF Holsted

Holsted is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Ribe County on the Jutland peninsula in southwest Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 190 km², and has a total population of 6,965 (2005). Its mayor is Carl Aaskov, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Holsted.

Neighboring municipalities are Brørup to the east, Billund, Grindsted, and Helle to the north, Bramming and Ribe to the west, and Rødding to the south.

By January 1, 2007 Holsted municipality will cease to exist due to Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Brørup, Rødding, and Vejen municipalities to form the new Vejen municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 817 km² and a total population of 41,350 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Syddanmark ("South Denmark Region").
