KNOWLEDGE OF Hobro

Hobro is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in North Jutland County on the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 166 km², and has a total population of 15,318 (2005). Its mayor is Jørgen Pontoppidan, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Hobro.

Neighboring municipalities are Mariager to the east, Arden to the northeast, Nørager to the northwest, Aalestrup and Møldrup to the west, and Tjele and Purhus to the south.

By January 1, 2007 Hobro municipality will cease to exist due to Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Arden, Hadsund, and Mariager municipalities to form the new Mariagerfjord municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 769 km² and a total population of 43,049 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Nordjylland ("North Jutland Region").
