Hailar

Hailar (海拉尔; pinyin: HÇŽilÄ?'Ä›r) is a city in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China. Administratively speaking, it is a district of Hulunbuir prefecture-level city, and the capital of that prefecture-level city. In reality, Hailar is the urban area, with Hulunbuir being the wider geographical region that contains the urban area.

Population (1999): 209,294.

Hailar was founded as a Chinese fort in 1734, and during the administration of the Republic of China it was the capital city of Xing'an Province.
