KNOWLEDGE OF General Pico

General Pico is a town in the north-east of La Pampa Province, Argentina. With a population of 52,475 (2001 census) it is the second-largect city in the province, after the capital Santa Rosa. General Pico experienced enormous growth in the second half of the 20th century. The city belongs to the department of Maracó.

Although not truly proven, the story says that the town was founded by a rich Italian immigrant called César Anibal Tattaglia in 1884, who was awed at the excellent landscape views that the Pampas offered.

Since the return of democracy in 1983, the town has been ruled by the same party: Partido Liberal de Derecha, created that same year by Raul Tattaglia, whose name oddly coincides with the possible founder. The Tattaglia dynasty continues until today, after having two of Raul Tattaglia's daughters as intendentes: Esther and Romina "La teta" Tattaglia while his other two sons Pedro and Pablo have already joined the party.

General Pico has produced two very important basketball teams in the Argentinian League: Pico Football Club and Independiente de Pico.
