Dronninglund

KNOWLEDGE OF Dronninglund

Dronninglund is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in North Jutland County on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 316 km², and has a total population of 15,213 (2005). Its mayor is Mikael Klitgaard, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Dronninglund.

Neighboring municipalities are Sæby to the north, Brønderslev and Aalborg to the west, and Hals to the south. To the east is the Kattegat.

By January 1, 2007 Dronninglund municipality will cease to exist, as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Brønderslev municipality to form the new Brønderslev-Dronninglund municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 630 km² and a total population of 35,320 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Nordjylland ("North Jutland Region").
