Dotnuva is a tiny little place, but as you drive through it on the 144 road towards KEDAINAIA you can cannot ignore the massive church that you will pass.
Screech to a halt in the wide parking area opposite and prepare to be amazed.
Dotnuva Church and Monastery of the Lord Revelation for St. Mary the Virgin (Dotnuvos Vie%u0161paties aprei%u0161kimo %u0160vè. Mergelei Marijai ba%u017Enyèios ir vienuolyno ansamblis)
Apparently a Capuchin abbey was established here and the present buildings date from the mid 18th century.
The church is too big - it would not be out of place in a big city such as Kaunas or Vilnius and it almost looks as if a local resident had too much money.
However, the legacy is a delightful and totalled unspoiled church in the middle of nowhere. It seems unchanged - apart from decay -and therefore has great charm.
We visited it Easter Saturday when it was decorated out for the Easter festivities.
The Priest's father also gave us a personal guided tour of the largely disused Monastery attached to it, and a fabulous and unique collection of hundreds of church vestments some of which date back hundreds of years
