Donji Lapac is a town and municipality in Lika-Senj county, Croatia. According to 2001 census town has population of 812 and municipality 1.880 people.
Before the war the area was almost entirely Serb populated with only 0,5% Croats according to 1991 census. After the war the area of Donji Lapac municipality became smaller because villages of Donji Srb and Gornji Srb were given to Municipality of GraÄ?ac in Zadar county. Still according to 2001 census Serbs compromise 73,6% and Croats, mostly colonizers from Bosnia and public officials (police) 25,1%.
Donji Lapac was founded in 1791 when Austo-Ottoman war ended in 1791 and Eastern Lika was annexed by Habsburg empire as Frontier post. In 1941 was first district center liberated by Yugoslav partisans.
