KNOWLEDGE OF Dongying

Dongying (Simplified Chinese: 东è?¥; Hanyu Pinyin: DÅ?ngyíng) is a prefecture-level city in Shandong province, People's Republic of China. Located around the mouth of the Yellow River, Dongying borders Binzhou to the west, Zibo to the southwest, and Weifang to the south. The city's 350-km coastline borders the Laizhou Bay and the Bohai Bay to the east and north respectively.

The city was established in 1983, as a base for developing the Yellow River Delta and China's second largest oilfield, Shengli Oil Field. The oilfield was discovered in 1964 near a small village called Dongying, which gave its name to the city.

Dongying is located on the banks of the Yellow River Delta. It has an area of 7,923 km².

A large part of the city's economy revolves around petroleum and the nearby Shengli Oil Field.

Industries include: petroleum, petrochemistry, saline chemistry, papermaking, machinery, electronics, construction, building materials, foodstuff processing, textile and light industries.
