Derventa (Cyrilic: Дервента) is a town in the northern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, located northwest of Doboj, in the Bosnian Posavina region.
The Derventa municipality borders with Bosanski Brod, ModriÄ?a, Doboj, Prnjavor and Srbac, as well as Croatia across the Sava river. It has an area of 517 km² and includes 57 villages in addition to the town of Derventa.
Prior to the war in Bosnia (1992-1995), it had a population of around 57,000. The 1991 census recorded 56,328 residents: 22,986 Serbs (40.9%), 21,972 Croats (39%), 7,122 Bosniaks (12.6%), 3,306 Yugoslavs (5.9%) and 942 others (1.6%). The town of Derventa itself had 17,451 residents (of which there were 32% Bosniaks, 25% Serbs, 25% Croats, 15% Yugoslavs, 3% others).
