Cascavel is a city of the Brazil located in the west of the state of Paraná with a population of approximately 272.243 people.
The city is on a plateau 2.624 feet above sea level. It is 605 km west of the sea port of Paranaguá, 140km from the 3 borders (Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil) at 24° 58' South, 53° 26' West.
The settlement in the area started in March 1928, when José Silvério de Oliveira known as Nhô Jeca, leased the land from José Elias. Many colonists from the south of Brazil settled when the cycle of Yerba mate was extincted, then dedicating themselves to the logging of trees and the swine breeding. The name of the city is the Portuguese for rattlesnake. The legend tells that a group of settler camped on night in the region and they were waken up by the sound of a rattle. They found out in that exactly place was a rattlesnake nest.
