Campina Grande is a city in northeastern Brazil. It is the second largest city of the Paraíba state, its main countryside city, has been founded in 1864 in the Borborema plateau and it is also named Rainha da Borborema. The population as estimated by IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) in 2003 is 365.559 inhabitants.
The main festival in Campina Grande is the so called Maior São João do Mundo. A whole month party in June.
The city is also well known as an important technology center in Brazil and it is home of two public universities the Universidade Federal de Campina Grande, Universidade Estadual da Paraiba and other smaller private universities, which attract many students from other states.
