Brabrand is a town 7 km west of Aarhus which became a suburb of Århus in 1970.
South of the town lies the lakes "Brabrand Sø" and "Aarslev Engsoe", which is the largest recreational areas of Aarhus County. The town was founded in the 18th century by means of burning the forest (the name reflects this), initially based mainly on farmers and associated trades.
The town has three distinct districts: Old town to the south by the lake mainly made up of single-family houses. Industrial areas by Edwin Rahrs Vej to the north, and in the eastern end the infamous Gellerup area, a concrete suburb that stands as an example of the 1960's urban development that scars several Danish cities.
