Bairnsdale is a city in eastern Victoria, Australia, population 11,000 (2001). It is situated 285 kilometres east of Melbourne, near where the Mitchell River empties into Lake King, and is close to the beautiful Gippsland Lakes and the ocean.
Bairnsdale is the commercial centre for the east Gippsland region and the seat of local government for East Gippsland Shire. It has two high schools, Nagle College (Catholic Private) and Bairnsdale Secondary College (Government).
