Baie du Tombeau

Baie du Tombeau is the beautiful beach 6 km long just at the Northern Side of the Port-Louis Harbour. Therefore, from the beach , many of the ships within the harbour may be viewed, a beautiful spectacle at night when their lights glow on the surface of the sea, when the natural orange sunset is gone. Although that the name " tomb " was given to that beautiful bay in memorial of the death of late Dutch Governor Pieter Booth, and also as the place where Virginie's body was recuperated after the shipwreck of the St Geran in the novel " Paul et Viginie" of famous writer Bernardin de St Pierre, Baie du Tombeau is the third more lively beach, after Grand Baie and Flic en Flac. Most people call that region by the name " COCO " as that region contains most of the coconut trees of the island. The place that forms the bay where most people enjoy themselves is surrounded by a cliff some 30 m high, which offers much privacy from the road users. The hotels built near these cliffs are therefore Tsunami-proof. Welcome to Baie du Tombeau.
