Bagé is a town and a municipality in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It was founded by portuguese immigrants.
Bagé has hot summer and cool winter, often getting the freezing point. Many frosts are recorded every year, and snowfall is rare. The last one was in 2000.
It served as an important military location due to its proximity to Uruguayan border only 40 kilometres away. In 1825 and 1827, it was occupied by the Uruguayan.
Historically, Bagé´s economy was based on "charque" (a kind of meat) produced in anciant farms to feed the slavers of Brazilian colony.
