Atikokan (2001 population 3,632) is a township in Rainy River District in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. Atikokan or "Land of Caribou Bones" in Ojibway, was founded over 100 years ago. Atikokan is known for its beautiful canoe routes and close proximity to hunting and fishing locations, and as such is locally known as The Canoe Capital of Canada. A small town in Northern Ontario, with a coal power plant about 20KM outside of town. Many people are employed at one of the two wood mills, Fibratech or Atikokan Forest Products (Located 30 Km east at Sapawe).
