Aldershot is a town in the English county of Hampshire, on heathland 55 km (35 miles) southwest of London, and is administered by Rushmoor Borough Council. The town is separated into five wards, these are:
Rowhill which covers the south-west of the town
Wellington which covers the west, north and centre of the town
Manor Park which covers the south of the town
Heron Wood which covers the south-east of the town
North Town which covers the north-east of the town.
The nearby villages of Ash and Ash Vale are in the county of Surrey, though their postal addresses are "Ash, Aldershot, Hampshire" and "Ash Vale, Aldershot, Hampshire", respectively.
Aldershot is known for its connection with the British Army which established a permanent camp in the area for instruction in military manoeuvres in 1854.
Aldershot is located at 51°15′00″N, 00°47′00″W (51.2500, -0.7833)1. The town is generally between 70m and 100m above sea level Ordnance Survey.
The railway station and bus station are both situated off Station Road.
A few years ago money was put into Aldershot allowing an extension of the town's mall, The Wellington Centre. The opening of this extension, The Galleries, had brought many jobs to the area as well as more shops. Unfortunately, in recent months, more and more of these new shops in the Galleries have since closed down.
